1] Futurecasting - Mobile Research
-
This is a research project to understand the future trends and how to keep LG current in the competition
-
The program involved me conducting 1:1 user interviews in UK and Korea. We also tied up with Frog Design to cover the rest of the European countries.
-
Research activities involved - Draft Questionnaires and goals, Create Test plan, finding users, getting appointments
Interviewing, videotaping, logistic management, Analysis of videos & notes, Affinity Diagrams, Research findings and suggestions -
Define future state for LG

2] Zoomable Interface - for Unified Messaging & Search (2009)
High-level Problem -
-
Storage size has increased (32GB): more data (SMS, contacts, files)
-
How to browse?
-
-
More installable application
-
How to find them?
-
-
Web 2.0: Social networking sites like Flickr, Facebook, Twitter
-
What are my friends doing?
-
Problem statement - 1: Currently, there is not a single place where the user can view all his communications & notifications. All the messaging is scattered in different applications. Also, users don’t know which are important messages and which are urgent.
Problem statement - 2: The current search is in respective apps. But there is no way to search information across the apps.

Solutioning
Multiple design options were tried to show how users can either browse or search for a particular phrase. There will be filters by data type eg - contacts, SMS, emails, calendar events, SNS notifications, etc

Why cloud Result ?
-
Interesting 3 D view
-
Easy to navigate groups of items.
-
Zoomable to show more information
Cloud Details
-
Tag cloud.
-
Relevant results appear big
-
Matching text is bold.
-
Result is displayed as group of similar items together
-
( Eg. All contacts are near, all sms are near each other )

3] Multimodal Interactions - Innovative mobile UX (2009)
Problem -
-
Due to the small size, the input methods like touch screen and keypad has limitations.
-
The mobile user does different tasks (Eg. call, email, camera) and in different contexts. One interaction mode is not efficient in all environments. Eg. Typing is good if you are stationary. But if you are driving speech is good.
-
The speed of operation is limited in using only one interaction mode.
-
Actions are not accurate.
Solutioning - Multimodal interactions
-
Faster operations. Less learning, Flexible, Natural
-
Multimodal allow different input modes to work complementary (Speech + gestures) or switch to best mode (speech for commands, gestures for manuplating )
-
Easy and more usability
-
Enjoying and pleasurable. Increased user engagement
User Motivation
-
Mobile interaction takes place in the real world
-
Users involved in other tasks
-
On the move
-
Contexts very varied
-
Users need effective ways to interact with sophisticated new applications and services
-
Current devices make interaction difficult
